The premise that "Once an svc thread is scheduled and executing an
RPC, no other processes will touch svc_rqst::rq_flags" is false.
svc_xprt_enqueue() examines the RQ_BUSY flag in scheduled nfsd
threads when determining which thread to wake up next.
Found via KCSAN.

I noticed CPU pipeline stalls while using perf.
Once an svc thread is scheduled and executing an RPC, no other
processes will touch svc_rqst::rq_flags. Thus bus-locked atomics are
not needed outside the svc thread scheduler.

Have the NFSD encoders annotate the boundaries of every
direct-data-placement eligible result data payload. Then change
svcrdma to use that annotation instead of the xdr->page_len
when handling Write chunks.
For NFSv4 on RDMA, that enables the ability to recognize multiple
result payloads per compound. This is a pre-requisite for supporting
multiple Write chunks per RPC transaction.

Under the scenario of IB device bonding, when bringing down one of the
ports, or all ports, we saw xprtrdma entering a non-recoverable state
where it is not even possible to complete the disconnect and shut it
down the mount, requiring a reboot. Following debug, we saw that
transport connect never ended after receiving the
RDMA_CM_EVENT_DEVICE_REMOVAL callback.
The DEVICE_REMOVAL callback is irrespective of whether the CM_ID is
connected, and ESTABLISHED may not have happened. So need to work with
each of these states accordingly.
